"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary"

– Cecil Beaton

The word on the street. Well, actually, online

Thoughtful and authentic storyteller – Viewers and readers often praise Simon for the reflective, almost meditative way he talks about photography. His videos and writing focus less on gear and more on meaning, emotion, and creative intent.

Experienced and credible – With over 40 years behind a camera, Simon is respected for the depth of his experience across commercial, documentary, and travel photography. He’s viewed as someone who’s seen photography evolve and still finds new ways to keep it personal and relevant.

Cinematic eye and narrative focus – His recent documentary work (like Somewhere Along The Way) and short films are noted for strong composition, emotional resonance, and storytelling that feels sincere and human.

Encouraging mentor tone – YouTube commenters frequently mention how his approach feels approachable and inspiring — less about showing off, more about encouraging others to see differently.

Integrity over trends – Simon’s content stands out for being honest and unpretentious. His anti-AI stance and advocacy for authentic, imperfect images resonate strongly with photographers and creatives seeking depth over hype.
